Pam Kurcz of Illinois, a married mom of four, was diagnosed in February 2016, with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Pam, a social worker, was able to participate in a CAR-T Cellular Therapy clinical trial under Dr. Leo Gordon of Northwestern Medicine in Chicago.

Clinical trials save lives, yet only approximately 5% of adult oncology patients participate in available clinical trials. Oncology clinical trials are designed to improve the care and treatment of cancer patients. Neena Kennedy, BSN, RN, OCN, Clinical Trials Nurse Navigator for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will share her expertise. In oncology, most clinical trials focus on new drugs and targeted therapies. We will dispel myths and empower you to consider this life-saving research.

Lew Christie is resilient and has not let his health issues rule his life. Lew will inspire everyone to “keep on keeping on.” He will also discuss the importance of having a wonderful caregiver and the many benefits of fighting your way through the hard parts. Get ready to make a new friend.

Jordan Segal is a bone marrow donor with an incredible story and is also a member of the Patient Engagement Team at DKMS. He shares his journey from signing up to be a donor to his current role recruiting others to do the same, while providing support to recipients on many levels.

Roy Proctor of Oregon will inspire you as he keeps it real. Roy has been through a lot. He was sick as a child and then diagnosed at 18 with AML. He was transplanted at 19, only to have the AML return at 23. His second transplant resulted in GVHD.

James D. Bond, Sr. of Ohio will share his dismal diagnosis, fight to stay in the race and the many twists and turns along the vast road of life. Strapped in with an amazing support system, James D. Bond, Sr. showed Multiple Myeloma what he was made of many decades ago. GVHD has also taken its toll but James beat that too.

Kelly Barnwell was an RN in the Emergency Room in a Level 1 Trauma Center in Atlanta, GA in the summer of 2017 when leukemia walked into her life. This tough health care hero shares her determination and her personal journey.
