Through the Tunnel 2 By Michele Vance
In 2006, I had an umbilical cord transplant for AML. Shortly after that I felt a need to paint a picture telling my story. This is Through the Tunnel 2. The circle represents the tunnel. It comes out of the darkness and goes into the light. Looking closely at the bottom of the circle, you can see a clock which indicates the patience and the time it takes to recover. Surrounding the circle are swirls of color and chaos engulfing white and red blood cells and DNA as they float looking for balance. Although it does not show up in the photographs, there are also pieces of broken mirror to indicate the sharp pain of life struggles and the chance for those struggles to give opportunities for reflection.
